It’s no secret…I love angst. With a passion. Almost as much as I love my RobPorn collection. I know, shocking, right? Yes, well, it’s true. You know what else I love? Good stories and authors who aren’t afraid to take risks. Lucky for you, I found something right up my alley. I think you’ll love it. Though be warned, the author gives no promise of a HEA with this baby. That almost makes me love her and the story even more!
Blessed Are the Forgetful is a beautifully crafted story by orrington.rose. It’s the story of a depressed, saddened, struggling Bella, quickly crumbling under the weight of her past relationship. This Bella isn’t perfect. She isn’t the smartest girl, the prettiest girl, the most coordinated girl, not even the most socially acceptable girl. She’s a girl with quirks, with issues, with annoying tendencies. In other words, she’s real. That’s one thing I love about the story. But trust me, there are so many more reasons.
We quickly learn that Bella is trying to get past a rather fast and fleeting relationship with Edward Cullen. We don't know a lot about Edward, other than he cares for Bella, but maybe never wanted anything more than a few moments with her. Bella happens upon a clinic and doctor who claim to be able to erase someone's memories. After a somewhat heartbreaking phone call from Edward, Bella makes a choice that will hopefully save her sanity, as well as her life.
Will we ever find out what really happened between Bella and Edward? Will Edward ever reveal his true feelings and intentions toward Bella? Will all the mind erasing really work on Bella? And seriously, what is up with married Doctor Jasper and his Emmett dating receptionist, Alice?
I was captivated by this story from the very beginning. The way orrington.rose writes is simply incredible. She twists her words into sentences and paragraphs that are poetic, and raw, and honest. They're beautiful, there's just no other way to say it. And to find out that not only is she an amazing writer, but she has also written some of the songs featured on her blog for this story? Way too much talent there in that one body. It's not fair.
Jealousy aside, I can't wait to find out what orrington.rose does with this story. Each chapter is more heartbreaking than the last, and I can't help feel sad for Bella and all the things she's losing, just in an attempt to gain some small bit of her life back. She's stuck between a rock and a hard place - needing to let go of the memories, but struggling to keep reliving them each day. Maybe Stephenie Meyer's Bella knew this feeling, too, when she said in New Moon, "Forbidden to remember, terrified to forget. It was a hard line to walk."
And yet we should be grateful that orrington.rose walks it so well.

It's when I write his name over and over in the fog of my own breath that I know something has to be done.
Edward. Edward. Edward.
Missing him is killing me.
I think about him as they call out "forty-fifth and division." I think about that one time we watched the parade. How did they get the Elephants between the parking-meters, we wondered.
When the homeless man scratches his crotch I remember that time I brought him to McDonalds.
I never would have thought Edward would feed me french fries like they were caviar.
I never would have guessed Edward would kiss the ketchup from my lips and whisper I look adorable.
On the window the fog fades and with it his name begins to disappear.
Edwa-
It's funny even now, even seeing his name, a little part of me springs from sleep, searches for him. Does he still feel that way about me?
The fog evaporates into the stuffy-cold air of the bus.
His name-gone.
I wish his name was gone from my head, too. I just want the pain to be over. It's such a basic thought, but pain does that, simplifies things.
Mrs White: How did you get started in fan fic?
orrington.rose: I started reading Labryinth fanfiction, when I was about fifteen, and after that I was addicted for life. However, I just started writing recently.
MW: What’s the first story you read?
or: I don’t even remember.
MW: What’s your favorite fan fic story and why?
or: I’m going to assume you mean Twilight fanfic. Which is hard. I actually don’t read that much twi-fic, does that make me horrible person? But I’d have to say Introduction to Swirl and Daisy. It’s by far and away my favorite twi-fic.
That said:
If you know anything about Hunger Games, or even if you don’t, you must must must read anything written by Aimmyarrowshigh. She is, in my opinion, the best fanfic writer out there.
MW: How did you come up with the idea for your story/stories?
or: I’m a crossover wh00r. I like to mix and match fandoms, because I think a good fanfic is like a good drink, the more flavors the better. I’ve always had the idea for BATF running around my brain, and finally got to writing it. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favorite movies.
For The Morphing Games, I visited the Stassi prison and took a class on the Cold War while I was in Berlin and was really inspired by that. Also, The Hunger Games is some of the most compelling fiction I’ve read in my life.
MW: Who is your favorite character to write?
or: Currently it’s Esme, in The Morphing Games. She’s about the only kind and gentle character I’ve written. Writing BATF is hard, or rather was (it’s all pre-written). And I feel compelled to write it, but it’s not an easy pleasure. That said I like writing Jasper (Dr. Whitlock) in that, too.
MW: How did you meet and get your beta?
or: Well, I don’t have a Beta for BATF (although I really really should). But for the Morphing Games, I have the wonderful Her Mighty Ubergeekness and Someone AkA Me. They are both fantastic betas and hilarious people. Never has grammar been so fun.
MW: How does it make you feel when people gush over you and your stories?
or: Unworthy.
MW: Which Twilight saga book is your favorite? And what’s your opinion on Breaking Dawn?
or: Twilight, by far and away. Breaking Dawn is so silly. All of Twilight is, but I love it anyway.
MW: If you could give one piece of advice to a new author, what would it be?
or: Write what you know. Write about things you understand, and always bring yourself to your writing.
MW: What is your favorite part about fan fic and the Twilight fandom?
or: I love how fanfic creates its own universe. There is so much fic that I like BETTER than the original books/movies, it’s incredible. As for the Twilight fandom it’s so fricken active and loving.
MW: What is your favorite ALMOST curse word?
or: Mother Pheasant Plucker.
MW: If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
or: “I told you it would be alright.”
Randomness with Mrs. White
MW: If you were in a beauty pageant, what would your talent be?
or: Singing.
Fun fact, I’m actually studying to be an opera singer.
MW: What’s your favorite drink?
or: Sake! So good!
MW: If you could make smexy times with any character from one of your stories, who would it be and why?
or: The Morphing Games Edward, he seems like he’d be very--erm--forceful.
MW: What color are your bedroom walls?
or: White. (college dorm)
MW: Which Disney Princess most closely resembles you and why?
or: Belle.
Brown hair.
Book worm.
Also I too randomly break out into French song.
MW: Do you ever use any people from real life in your stories? If so, who and how did you choose them?
or: I use bits and pieces of people, probably more than I should, frankly. But as I said, write what you know. That’s the best way to make real characters with real emotions.
MW: What is your favorite kind of car?
or: I would like to own a Lexus.
MW: Do you listen to music while you write? Does music inspire your stories in any way?
or: Oh yeah!
For The Morphing Games I listen to a lot of soundtrack music particularily GATTACA and The Road to Perdition as well as 20th century atonal stuff like Stravinsky, Berg and Steve Reich.
For Blessed are the Forgetful, I listen to Florence and the Machine, Simon and Garfunkle, and Radiohead. I also composed my own peices for BATF. My favorite one is called Old Man’s Lullaby, you can listen to it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUnkxWQatrI&NR=1
MW: Who is your favorite actor/actress?
or: Anthony Hopkins. (is it wrong to have a crush on him?)
Meryl Streep
MW: If you could be any other person in the world, who would you be and why?
or: Renee Fleming, because she’s super rich and sings everywhere and people pay her.
MW: Who is your celebrity crush?
or: David Bowie, I mean his pants in Labryinth?! Please. Sexual awakening right there.
MW: What’s your favorite item on a relish/vegetable tray?
or: Veggies? I suppose Eggplant.
MW: Have you ever played football?
or: No.
MW: How did you choose your pen name/username?
or: It’s my stripper name. I mean my stage name, my first name + the name of the street I grew up on.
MW: What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
or: Crem Brulee! Or Mint Chocolate Chip.
